8 4 TRANSFER BASE r Sarvlca Dlagnnsls Condition Possible Cause Correction JUMPS OUT OF 2 WD 1 Main shaft gear disengaged 1 Check torque on main shaft from rear output shaft gear nut sliding gear 2 Shift lever torsion spring 2 Replace spring not holding JUMPS OUT OF 4 WD HIGH 1 Front output shaft sliding 1 Excessive end play gear disengaged from front worn or bent shift fork output shaft gear 2 Main shaft gear disengaged 2 Check torque on main shaft from rear output shaft gear nut sliding gear 3 Shift lever torsion spring 3 Replace torsion spring not holding 4 Rear shift rod poppet spring 4 Replace poppet spring not holding DISISSIIIIIIY 10 Remove front bearing from shaft 1 Remove speedometer driven gear Sleeve and ll lf necessary remove speedometer driven gear driven gear from bearing cap bushmg fr r bearing WP 2 Mount bearing cap assembly in vise 3 Using Yoke Holding Wrench J 8614 10 remove yoke nut fig 8 ss Assamhly 4 With Universal rJolnt Yoke Puller J 25l34 re 1 If removed install speedometer driven gear v wks from Mft f s 9 bushing using Bushing Installer Tool J 25169 J Zgigoitrelengveigeal from bearing cap bore with Puller 2 Drive frenebeerirre cup inte here 3 I ll f b h f 6 Remove bearing cap assembly from VISE and 4 61 re i n ee g u ni e ereV using rear face of cap as support drive output shaft from bearing ear uerrre breee drift end hammer 5 Install speedometer drive gear and shlms on shaft rrergaelg r 2 r ig i er arlng and drive bearmg cup 6 Place output shaft in bearing cap and rest end of output shaft on firm surface m 8 Dm from mcg wp mm mcg ep fm 7 Place and roller on n not an fmr r9 hl e nove speedometer drive gear and shims rw i F5f e figehsgigxgsgfggigg Img A 9 Install yoke flat washer and nut Tighten nut NOTE Keep shims together for use in assembly to M0 foot pounds torque
