10 0 AXLES PIIOPELLEH SHAFI S VI 3 Use Nut Wrench J 25158 to tighten upper ball 3 Clean area of dirt and foreign matter stud seatto 50 foot pounds torque fig 10 12 4 Install bronze washer with chamfered side 4 Install upper stud nut and tighten to 100 foot toward axle shaft seal pounds torque Install cotter pin If cotter pin holes do 5 Install seal Direct lip of seal toward spindle not align tighten nut until cotter pin can be installed fig 10 13 Do not loosen nut to align holes 6 Pack wheel bearing grease around thrust face 5 Connect steering tie rod Tighten nuts to 50 of shaft and seal Fill seal area of spindle with wheel foot pounds torque bearing grease NOTE When the steering knuckle is removed or re placed check the turning angle SPINDLE BEARING Raplmmant T X NOTE Frzmt ark spindles are equipped with a needle L roller bearing located at the rear spindle flange fig 4 I l r e 10 1 4 Q U 1 Mount spindle in vise Use caution and protect all machined surfaces on spindle V 2 Remove needle bearing using internal type pull er 3 Clean ares of dirt and foreign matter M 4 Install needle bearing and pack needle K e bearing with grease T x M wREMcH Nur 1 4 V i 2s15a 4 V 141077 Qolir j Flg 10 12 Tlulmnlnq l l I 1 TBI l IIO IIl A v AXLE SHAF SEAL 6 I1 pI c m nt 7 A ts i w 1 Remove seal fig 10 13 2 Remove bronze thrust washer If washer is 3 worn replace it QEEEEE xiv BEARING eq V J 3 mon I i Fl 10 1A Splndlnlnrlnq gl 1 x F1101 TAXLEl EIAOVA1 K Qi V W 1 Raise and support front end Position frame g stands at rear of front springs E V lY 2 Remove wheel covers wheel locknuts and Z 24 f wheels M 3 Index propeller shaft for assembly reference V N and remove propeller shaft nova 4 Disconnect steering connecting rod at ball and f 3 Am sym 3 gwMm socket connection on steering knuckles
