VI AXlES PI 0PELLEIi SHAFTS I0 Z1 Z I I W 4 J JEEP 7 Y I Axte n lllI l I I wm sm y l b f owxensnou tls 1L i cottavsnatz ozma i snoza smm KZ Anus FI 1040 Standard Selllnu Dlnnslan and Plnlnn Ilqnli Shln Location axle shaft centerline must be less than the standard setting The standard setting for the AMC Jeep axle is H 2 547 inches fig 10 40 V x NOTE Service replacement gear sets marked or 0 009 or more should be returned to Zone Parts Das r trilmtion Center Do rmt attempt to install these gear sets The number on the pinion gear must match the first of the two numbers of the ring pinion lf the number on the pinion gear differs from the first num at ber on the ring pinion the gear set Ls rmt matched g mm Ourllmi Mmmm n l Q Observe the pinion depth variance marked on the i 4 pinion gear If the number is preceded by a plus sign add that amount in thousands to the standard setting for the axle model being overhauled lf the number is preceded by e minus sign subtract that K tf amount in thousandths from the standard setting cb The result of this addition or subtraction is the j MMS desired pinion depth Record this figure for future reference 1 Assemble Arbor Tool J 5223 4 and Discs H m Mw M Plnm rM v J 55223 23 and install in differential bearing cup bores in axle housing Be sure discs are seated in bearing bores 3 Position Gauge Block J 5223 20 on end face of 2 Install bearing caps in axle housing and over pinion gear with anvil end of gauge block seated on discs fig 10 42 Tighten bearing cap bolts securely gear and plunger underneath Arbor Tool J 5223 4 fig but not to specified torque 10 42
